Carlton United Brewery Gates – Broadway – Sydney

Across six hectares of a global city, Frasers Property has commenced construction to create a high quality, sustainable and mixed use development on Broadway – comprising apartments, offices, shops, restaurants and open space.

Central Park development

Frasers Property has named the entire precinct Central Park – inspired by the site’s close proximity to the CBD and Central Station, as well as the size and importance of the parklands to the whole project.

Formal naming of the parks and roads within the site will be subject to the standard Geographical Names Board process and Council community consultation process.

The project has a high level of social and environmental sustainability initiatives– creating a new, people-centred gateway to Sydney’s CBD.

The latest information about the project is available on either the Frasers or Central Park websites.
New public park under construction

Frasers is working to deliver a large public park, which is a significant new green space for the people of Chippendale and the centrepiece of the redevelopment.

The new public park will be approximately 6,500 square metres and will span 115 metres in length and 50 metres in width, in a rectangular shape. It is positioned on the Northern edge of O’Connor Street, and has a further three street frontages to new public roads (yet to be named).
Balfour Street Park complete

Frasers completed Balfour Street Park, a gateway to Central Park, in April 2010. The pocket park was designed by the City of Sydney to provide a gathering place for local residents and an important connection through to Broadway for pedestrians and cyclists.

Council closed Balfour Street to traffic between O’Connor and Wellington Streets in 2009 and consulted with the community in designing the pocket park. For more information check our Balfour Street Park update page.
Community consultation

The City regularly updates the community about work being undertaken as part of this redevelopment through Community Forums and City News.

All Development Applications lodged with Council regarding works are also subject to Council notifications which include letters in the mail to nearby residents and businesses.

Information on Planning Applications lodged with Department of Planning is available through the Major Projects section of their website.

Frasers is committed to providing a strong community liaison presence throughout the duration of this project. Members of the community who live in the area above can contact Carlene by emailing community@frasersgreencliff.com or calling the freecall number 1800 282 909.
Project updates

International and local architects are now working on Project Applications for major buildings within the site. For more information on the status of applications refer to Frasers’ website.

Applications on exhibition are available to view in the Major Projects section of the Department of Planning website.

To accommodate traffic entering the CUB site, a new signalised intersection is required on the corner of Broadway and Balfour Street. The intersection will be main access point for construction traffic and is designed to keep vehicles off local roads.

To enable the new signalised intersection, a number of changes were proposed to be made to Broadway, including the closure of Jones Street, narrowing of the footpath and relocation of a right turning lane from Broadway into Balfour Street. In December 2009 Council resolved to support the signalised intersection, subject to no narrowing of the footpath and no removal of healthy plane trees on the north side of Broadway. The RTA is currently considering removal of a lane of traffic on Broadway to accommodate the signalised intersection and associated traffic changes.

Frasers provide regular updates about the development of Central Park, its streets, parks and buildings.
Project history

Frasers purchased the former CUB site from the Foster’s Group on Friday 29 June 2007.

In February 2007 the concept plan was approved by the Minister for Planning and included new parklands, community facilities and upgrades to urban infrastructure. The approved concept plan can be viewed by visiting Frasers Broadway.
